Russell Hunter grew up in the North East of Scotland. Coming from a musical family, he was surrounded by traditional music from an early age, and had already made a couple of television appearances by the age of twelve. More recently, after a break during which he studied History and Politics at Edinburgh University, his music has seen him do a stint as a cocktail pianist at the Nile Hilton in Cairo, as well as a tour of Brazil with a Scottish Dance Band. Equally at home on fiddle or piano, his recent work has included slots with the likes of Charlie McKerron and Donald Shaw, Capercaille, Phil Cunningham, and recordings with Eilidh Shaw, cMc and John McCusker, among others. The likes of this exciting work and his understanding of the music has made Russell one of the most sought after accompanists on the Scottish scene. |
